Free variant for Takeover drops 9/21

Takeover is getting a free rules variant called Override on 9/21 at Fall Game Market West and here on the site.

While most players enjoyed the game’s unique hand building and flexible ladder climbing, some found the rules a bit too technical. Instead of waiting for a sequel or second edition we decided to offer a new experience with the same components players already own—for free.

Takeover Override's brand new ruleset leans into the best parts of the standard game while reducing rules complexity. Players can expect:

  • Easier to learn, teach, and play rules
  • More tactical freedom 
  • Freer, more exciting hand building 
  • Dramatic upsets from Overrides and Showstoppers

Game Market West and new online purchases (while supplies last) will receive a special promo card (below) that links to the rules. And ofc, the Override rules will be available to download here and on BGG.
